A community partner of the Stop the Hate program

Crowd looking at a speaker at a Education and Leadership Foundation eventThe Education and Leadership Foundation (ELF) used Stop the Hate funds support to help undocumented community members identify and report hate incidents and hate crimes.

The organization focused on barriers that often prevent reporting, including limited information, language access, cultural stigma and fear that contact with law enforcement could affect immigration status.

During the grant period, ELF supported more than 250 individuals and families with immigration legal consultations. The organization also assisted some clients in pursuing humanitarian immigration remedies, including U Nonimmigrant Status.

One family turned to ELF after harassment and discrimination from a neighbor forced them to relocate. ELF helped the family report the crime, navigate the legal process, receive court accompaniment, access immigration consultation and pursue humanitarian relief. The family was later approved for work permits and Social Security numbers through the bona fide process, moving them closer to independence and lawful status.
