Hlub Hmong Center’s Stop the Hate program, Many Hands, is helping transform public and private institutions in Merced into partners for social justice, equity and well-being.
As one of the few Hmong-driven advocacy organizations nationwide, HHC brings Hmong and mainstream leaders together across education, government and law enforcement to advance Hmong equity and prevent hate.
A major focus has been transforming public education through the statewide Hmong History and Cultural Studies Model Curriculum, mandated by Assembly Bill 167 and Senate Bill 895. HHC partners with school districts and higher education institutions to provide conferences, workshops and coaching for K-12 educators, helping schools adopt policies and practices that celebrate and advance Hmong students.
HHC also works with government, business and civic leaders to shape public dialogue and action for racial equity. In May 2024, Merced city and county leaders adopted Hmong American Day, accompanied by Anti-Hate Proclamations for Asian American and Pacific Islanders. A Hmong Advisory Council, Hmong Youth Leadership Academy and Hmong Youth Council now support cultural understanding, community safety, youth leadership and long-term hate prevention.
