Merced Lao Family Community Development

A community partner of the Stop the Hate program

Merced Lao Family Community Development created safe, welcoming and culturally responsive spaces where Southeast Asian community members could talk openly about discrimination, bias and hate incidents.

Through outreach, educational workshops and community events, participants were able to share experiences without fear of judgment and learn where to turn for support.

Staff provided culturally and linguistically appropriate information, referrals and guidance on rights, reporting and available resources. These interactions strengthened trust between MLFC and the communities it serves, reducing barriers that often keep people from seeking help.

A Community Listening Session held April 14, 2026, brought together 62 participants, including youth, adults, elders, community leaders and guest speakers. The session elevated community voices, deepened awareness of hate-related issues affecting Southeast Asian communities and encouraged collective responsibility for safety, inclusion and mutual understanding in Merced County.
