The Stop the Hate initiative strengthened and expanded the Black Youth Leadership Project’s (BYLP) work with Black youth and families.
Funding supported culturally affirming spaces where participants could process experiences with racism, discrimination, bullying and exclusion while developing leadership skills and the confidence to advocate for themselves and their communities.
Through wellness circles, community conversations, educational advocacy, youth leadership programming and public awareness efforts, BYLP responded to incidents of hate and harm happening at schools and in the community with compassion and accountability, more than just individual responses, BYLP built systems and pathways in schools. And the program helped participants move from surviving difficult experiences to becoming agents of change.
Stop the Hate also deepened community trust and strengthened partnerships with schools, community organizations and public agencies. For BYLP, preventing hate means investing in relationships, belonging, leadership and culturally responsive spaces where every young person feels valued and empowered to thrive.
