Through literacy programs, Mother Daughter Table Talks and Teen Healing Circles, the organization addressed conditions that can feed hate, isolation and hopelessness by fostering belonging, empathy, cultural pride and dialogue.

Programs such as Boys in the Hood Book Club, Around the Way Girls Book Club and the Summer Reading Challenge helped youth explore diverse stories, discuss social issues, strengthen literacy and appreciate different perspectives. Thirty-two Mother Daughter Table Talks created monthly opportunities for parents, caregivers and youth to discuss relationships, self-worth, mental wellness, resilience and community. Twenty-five Teen Healing Circles gave young people brave spaces to process experiences and build supportive peer connections.

The initiative also expanded Escape Velocity’s reach through 35 online newsletters, 182 social media posts and 51 community events and youth-led activities. Together, these efforts helped young people and families feel seen, heard and valued while building momentum toward a more connected Sacramento community.
