Oasis Legal Services

A community partner of the Stop the Hate program

Oasis Clients and Staff at Fresno PrideOasis Legal Services used Stop the Hate support to serve LGBTQ+ survivors whose experiences of hate created more than one immediate need.

For clients such as Yancy and Melissa, whose names were changed to protect their privacy, legal assistance became part of a larger pathway to stability, safety and belonging.

Yancy came to Oasis as an unaccompanied minor after being rejected and harmed because she is transgender. She first sought immigration support, but the team recognized that she also needed social services, affirming health care, language access and community connection. When she encountered discrimination while trying to enroll in college, Oasis helped connect her to gender-affirming care and a local LGBTQ+ center. With that support, she was able to pursue higher education in an environment that affirmed who she is.

Melissa came to Oasis after surviving a hate-motivated attack and needing help navigating recovery. Oasis advocated for crime victims compensation, used the Stop the Hate partner network to identify warm referrals and connected her with mental health services and LGBTQ+ community events. In both stories, the impact came from combining legal advocacy, social service coordination and community connection so survivors could move from crisis toward stability.
