Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center (PCRC) responded when a student shared an antisemitic social media post that harmed Jewish students, unsettled families and raised urgent concerns about hate speech on campus.
Rather than treating the incident as isolated misconduct, PCRC created an opportunity for learning, accountability and repair.
Through several facilitated meetings, the student learned about the origins and impacts of hate speech and explored practical ways to change behavior. The process helped the student understand how words can carry lasting harm, particularly for communities with histories of targeted violence and discrimination.
After the meetings, the student formally apologized to those affected and showed a positive change in behavior and communication. The story reflects the role of community-centered intervention in helping young people recognize harm, take responsibility and choose a different path.
